EDITING & GRAMMAR 95%About Me
I trained as an English teacher, where I spent the first few years of my career. I ended up teaching coding and pioneering our school's first AP program. When COVID hit, I trained as a software developer. Those years in the tech industry led me to a proficiency in research and a curiosity for the unknown. I've since found my niche in technical writing.
I have over 12 years of experience as an exceptionally precise writer and editor, as well as over 5 years in the technology sector. My ability to synthesize and present abstract technical concepts, using tools like Word, PowerPoint, and Visio, as well as through curriculum creation and live presentations, sets me apart from other technical writers.
In addition, I independently manage and organize multiple documentation pipelines at once. I can quickly pivot and adapt as situations and priorities change.
My great people skills and approachable, analytical personality lend itself well to communicating with highly technical individuals. I have a high value for all people, and that respect wins trust and helps create an enjoyable working environment for everyone.
My sharp eye for organization, as well as my ability to grasp and communicate a high level of subject-matter knowledge, make me an ideal technical writer. And when deadlines are looming, I am always calm.
Experience
A brief snapshot about some of my top abilities.
Technical Writing
Autonomously researching concepts and testing functionality over a wide variety of topics, I've created comprehensive documents that explain a concept in its entirety, medium-length guides that prioritize what is useful to most users, and short guides that prioritize brevity. I've also synthesized JIRA tickets to create release notes.
Editing
My committment to accuracy dates back to my years as a university student, where I worked part-time as a writing tutor at my university's writing center. I've since edited countless student papers and publications articles. When I'm not at work, I notice misspellings, grammar mistakes, and inconsistent formatting all over the place.
Presentations
As a seasoned educator, I have seven years of experience presenting and training over a variety of topics. I am quite comfortable and polished in front of a crowd. I've created countless hours of presentations over the years. In addition, I have a lot of experience optimizing learner engagement and retention in alignment with specific learning goals.
LMS/LXP Administration
One of my jobs as a technical writer was specifically for a SaaS company that offered a LMS/LXP to their customers. My principal responsibility was researching and writing about how their LMS worked. I am quite comfortable as an administrator. I created various user accounts with different access levels, logging in as those users to test the content's functionality and usability.
Copywriting
I taught high school publications, where I taught newspaper and yearbook classes, modeled copywriting, actively practiced copyediting, taught page and book design, and photography. Afterward, I freelanced as a copywriter, proposal writer, and nonfiction writer. When I was a university student, I also served on the editorial staff of my university's literary magazine, SPIRITS, for several semesters.
Research
I fell in love with coding when I got a job teaching computer science; a field I had no previous experience in. That experience taught me that I have an ability to learn new ideas quickly. I utilize both search engine best practices and AI-powered assistance to increase my efficiency. Throughout my career as a technical writer, I've enthusiastically embraced a fearless curiosity of the unknown.
